Who is Mary Hooker?

Mary Mather Hooker was a person of many talents and interests. 

She was the first woman legislator in the state of Connecticut. She was a representative from Hartford during 1921 and 1925. She achieved her greatest distinction in education. For a quarter of a century she was associated with educational progress in Hartford. In 1915 she was named to complete the unexpired term of her late husband on the Board of Education, former Mayor Edward Hooker. On February 13, 1918 she was elected to the Board of Education and served for nearly 20 years until 1937.
