Food Corps

ESM is proud to host a FoodCorps volunteer, who helps to run our community gardens and comes into classrooms to introduce kids to strange new foods like peppers, spinach, and cabbage.

What is FoodCorps?

Food Corps is a national organization that places service members ins communities to connect kids to real food to help them grow up healthy! This is accomplished through three general methods: nutrition education, building/tending to school gardens, and partnering with farms to put quality food into schools.

FoodCorps identifies local organizations that are already doing effective work on the ground, then arms these partners with emerging leaders who amplify their impact.

FoodCorps is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We're a part of the AmeriCorps service program, and is also funded by other organizations and donors.

Meet our FoodCorps Service Member

My name is Krizl and I am the new service member in East Hartford at Connecticut River Academy and Mary Hooker Magnet School.  I am a recent graduate from Florida State University with a degree in Biology and Environmental Studies. After spending the last four summers working at a camp in NY, I am enthusiastic to learn from the students in yourcommunity while I share my passion for fresh, fair food with them!
